BRIEF HISTORY AND FACT OF JAMA'ATU IZALATUL BID'A

BRIEF BLESSED FACTS ABOUT JAMAATU IZALATIL BIDAH WA IQAMATIS SUNNAH (JIBWIS), NATIONAL HEADQUATERS, JOS, NIGERIA THE FOUNDER; SHEIKH ISMAILA IDRIS BIN ZAKARIYYA (1937-2000) ESTABLISHMENT: Izala Society, formally JAMAATU IZALATIL BIDAH WA IQAMATIS SUNNAH (ORGANIZATION FOR THE ERADICATION OF INNOVATION AND ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SUNNAH), also called JIBWIS, was established fourty (40) years ago, in 1978, at Jos, Nigeria by SHEIKH ISMAILA IDRIS BIN ZAKARIYYAH (1937-2000), in reaction to the disastrous mixing of Islam with Innovations by Sufi brotherhoods, specifically the Qadiri and Tijjani Sufi orders. Today the Izala is one of the largest Islamic Societies not only in Northern Nigeria, but also in the South and even in the neighboring Countries (Chad, Niger, Cameroon, Benin and Ghana). It is very active in Dawa (propagation of the faith) and especially in education. The Izala has many institutions all over the country and is influential at the Local, State, and even Federal levels. LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE: Izala Society has three Branches or Arm, which were created to effect a better separation of power and division of labour. These Branches are; 1. THE ULAMAU COUNCIL: This branch is popularly referred to, in Hausa, as MAJALISAR MALAMAI. It serves as the Executive Branch of the Society which doubles as the highest body with most of the powers to see the day-to-day running of the activities of the Society. It comprises of a Chairman, his Deputies, and a Secretary etc. The first Chairman of this Council was Late Sheikh Ismaila Idriss Bin Zakariyyah, Jos, who was also the Founder of the Organization (May Allah have mercy on his soul). He was succeeded by Sheikh Muhammad Sani Yahya Jingir who currently occupies the position till today. 2. THE ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL: Popularly called MAJALISAR GUDANARWA. It is saddled with the administrative function and the responsibility of coordinating the relationship between the Organization and the Government of all levels and other Organizations. This branch also comprises of a Chairman, Deputy, and a Secretary etc. The first Chairman of this branch was Late Sheikh Alhaji Musa Muhammad Mai Gandu. He was succeeded by Makaman Kano, Late Alhaji Habibu Gado Da Masu, then by Marafan Tambuwal, Late Alhaji Abdurrahman, then by Late Alhaji Na Alhaji Azare (May Allah (SWT) have mercy on their souls) while Sheikh Abdul-Nasir Abdul-Muhyi is the current Chairman. 3. THE FIRST AID GROUP: Also popularly called MAJALISAR AGAJI. This branch performs the security functions of protecting the properties of the Organization, giving first aid assistance to persons in need, maintenance of Mosques, organizing the preaching field, maintenance of the sound system gadgets, serving as watchmen and orderlies of the persons in the other branches, coordinating relationship between the Organization and Security Agencies among others. This Branch comprises of a Director, Secretary, and a Treasurer etc. The First and incumbent National Director of this branch is Alhaji Isah Waziri Muhammad Gombe. He’s been assisted by Deputies and Secretaries. These three branches reflect in the leadership structure of the Organization in the National Level, State Level, Local Government Level and the Ward Level. CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION: Apart from the Government, there is no any Organization in Nigeria and Africa that has contributed so much to the development of education like JIBWIS. It has so many Registered and Government approved Educational Institutions all over Nigeria and some parts of Africa. These Educational Institutions covers all levels from the Tertiary Institutions down to the Primary Levels. Some of these instutions are: PRIMARY LEVEL: 1. MALJAUS SUNNAH SCHOOLS: Izala Organization has over 4700 schools known as Maljaus Sunnah with over 4,696,000 Students all over Nigeria. 2. ASASUL ISLAM SCHOOLS: Izala have over 380 schools of this name with over 1,747,000 students. 3. MUASSASSAH TAHFIZUL QURAN SCHOOLS: they have this kind of schools totalling over 340 with 117,500 students. 4. WEEKEND SCHOOLS: Izala have two sections of these schools; Adult Section totalling to over 200 with over 11,000 students and Children Section totalling to over 200 with over 11,000 students also. SECONDARY LEVEL: 1. JIBWIS SCIENCE SCHOOLS: Izala has over 60 schools of this type with over 129,900 students. 2. HIGHER ISLAMIC SCHOOLS: Izala has over 70 Higher Islamic Schools with over 900,000 students TERTIARY LEVEL: 1. JIBWIS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, JOS 2. JIBWIS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, BAUCHI 3. JIBWIS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, POTISKUM, YOBE STATE 4. JIBWIS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, GOMBE 5. JIBWIS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, KEBBI 6. JIBWIS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, JAMA'ARE, BAUCHI STATE 7. JIBWIS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, LAFIYA, NASARAWA STATE 8. JIBWIS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, GUMAU 9. JIBWIS SCHOOL OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY, NINGI, BAUCHI STATE 10. JIBWIS TRAINING SCHOOL FOR JUDGES AND IMAMS JIBWIS Jos is now in all preparations to commence construction of University in Nigeria. CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE HEALTH SECTOR Izala Organization has contributed in this sector by construction of clinics, pharmacies and hospitals evident in Jos, Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi and some other places. DA'WAH ACTIVITIES: Izala Society is very active in Da'wa (propagation of the faith) and it does this through its numerous activities, some of which are: 1. Yearly Quranic Recitation Competition starting from the Ward Level through to the National Level. As at last year, Izala held its 21st Session of the Competition at which about 20 States of the Federation participated in the competition with about 109 contestants. 2. Yearly Seminar on Education which at last year saw the attendance of many people from across 29 states and the neighbour in countries of Niger, Benin and Ghana send in over 800 delegates. 3. Public Preaching: this is conducted every three (3) weeks at the National level, every two (2) weeks at state level and weekly at local governments and wards level. 4. Lessons on religious, moral and social guidance in their various mosques all over the country during the five daily prayers times and on every Friday. 5. Teaching Sessions popularly known as Majlisin Karatu, which usually holds between Maghrib and Isha Prayers by Chairmen of Ulamau Council of various levels and some other Scholars. In these sessions various books are taught, some of which are: Hadith Books; Riyadus Saliheen, Muwatta, Bulugul Maraam, Umdatul Ahkam etc.; Fiqh Books; Akhdari, Ashmaawi, Risalah, Muwatta, Iziyyah etc., Tajweed Books, Ulumul Quran Books and hosts of others. 6. Tafsir Sessions: This holds actively every Ramadan and after Ramadan; on selected days of the week. Izala has actively selected the Tafsir Book of Late Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gummi (Rahimahullahu), Raddul Azhaan Ilaa Maaanil Quraan, as the Book they normally use in their Tafsir sessions. They also hold special Tafsir and Preaching Sessions for Women. 7. Special Tutorial Sessions to Pilgrims where prospective pilgrims to mecca are admitted and some selected Scholars are send to teach and guide them on how to go about the Hajj every year. 8. Daurah Programmes in which students are trained in various fields of knowledge and specifically in Quranic Memorization. 9. Special Visit Sessions to Correctional Centres for preaching and humanitarian services to the inmates. COMMITTEES: Izala Society has several working committees that assist in carrying out its functions. Some of these committees are: 1. Zakkah and Waqf Committee: this committee is saddled with the respionsibility of preaching the importance and benefits of giving Zakkah, collecting zakkah from the eligivle people, disbursing the zakkah collected to the deserving persons according to the dictates of Shariah. As at last year, this committee recorded the successes of; the sum of over N 5,880,000:00 and Over 280 bags of Millet which were disbursed to the needy, persons of physical disability, orphaned homes, workers in the committee, hospitals, scholarships to students, and the youth preaching committee. 2. Youth Preaching Committee: this is a committee comprising youth that perform the functions of preaching, humanitarian services, workshops etc. 3. Women Preaching Committee which is saddled with the responsibility of organizing special preaching sessions to women. 4. Quranic Recitation Competition Committee responsible for organising the Quranic Competition which holds yearly and has, as at last year holds its 21st Session of the Competition. 5. Tafsir Committee responsible for organizing the Tafsir sessions; gathering and sending names of the Tafsir Scholars and supervising the conduct of the Tafsir Sessions. 6. Committee on Mosques Construction and Maintenance. 7. Committee on Directorate of Education. 8. Committee on the Public Preaching. 9. Committee on Jobs, Entrepreneurship and Industries. 10.
